Cypher

In September 2005, Throwstar co-ordinated Cypher - our annual Christian hip hop artists gathering- for the 6th time! Rappers, beatboxers, breakers, djs, producers, graf artists from all over the UK are invited to come together for a big barbeque.

What we love about Cypher is that it is simple and organic. A cypher is started when a group of charismatic rappers and vocal percussionists form a circle and begin improvising. Whether amplified or not, a cypher is one of the most fun and raw rituals within hip-hop culture.

Natural creative alliances are forged, rookie artists are encouraged, new believers are challenged, lyrics are spit, worship spills out, food is consumed and people leave with big smiles on their faces. . . we love providing a context for this stuff to happen.
