Cornwall’s Josiah Gillespie is an innovative singer-songwriter, creating striking folk-pop songs filled with honesty, hope, and that all-important melody…
From Neil Young to Ryan Adams to Death Cab For Cutie, the heroes of the genre leave their mark on his music as much as the relationships that inspired it. The result is folk-pop; carved out of wood to an immaculate finish, but allowing the grain and knots of its material to shape it.
Continuing to play to intimate crowds and at grassroots-level events, Josiah recently signed to Birmingham label Zang Productions. Almost one person at a time, this personal music is going public – and it’s going to stay there.
After a decade of musical jestering Zang Productions is finally to be shut down. We leave you with these parting gifts:
-One last album, called So Long, Farewell, Goodby, I Love You.It's free to download, and it features University of the King, Florent, Barrowclough, Benjamin Blower, Greybeard, Vincent Gould, Fiction Fight, Ebenezer, Bethan Marshall and Selina Blakeney.
-And also three music videos - dug out out of the vaults of unfinished Zang work. One for Selina Blakeney's Stay Tight, one for The Custodians' Sacred, and one for Benjamin Blower's Hey Hey Babylon is Dead...
The debut album from Josiah Gillespie - "The Ache And Answer" - is available now!
Gillespie headed to the quiet depths of the Welsh countryside to record these songs and ended up with post-surf beach-fire anthems, brooding diary entry ballads and uninhibited explosions of joyful, soulful folk.
