The Custodians

The Custodians

Hi.

I'm Joel, one half of The Custodians. I'm multi-national chap, born and raised in Ireland.

I'm a rapper, photographer, word-nerd, film-maker and cheerleader of many other artists.

Eliot Best, the other Custodian, is an intuitionist producer, throwing those hardcore punk, sci-fi & horror-flicks, new wave, boom bap, 80's children's TV samples together and dicing beats. I tend to be one of the first people to get the hear the astounding results.

From 1998-2003 I was part of alledgedly 'the most unusual of all Britain's hip-hop teams' Michaelis Constant. Well, we did plant hecklers in the audience then attack 'em with french bread. Bam!

Then I got to be a part of the Extensioners with Eliot alongside Sensai C and DJ Cro. More story-telling. Also got to spar with rapper/producer The What Supreme in a group called Ottoman Yak.

In 2005 Zang released our album Colloquial [which me and Eliot made in two weeks as a birthday present for my wife].

Last year Zang released a double EP [Still available as a FREE download] called My Organs Are Yours for your listening pleasure. It's heart-on-sleeve rap.

NOW some frequently answered questions, answered once again:

Who inspires you? De La Soul, Gangstarr, Outkast, Mf Doom, Black Moon, Sup the Chemist, Dose One, Aesop Rock, Michael Stork, Sage Francis, my dad, my wife, 16 Horsepower, Mike Patton, Task Force, Freestyle Fellowship, Saafir, C.S. Lewis and Evie my 4 year old daughter.

Who is your favourite rap artist? Today I'll say Dave from De La Soul

What is your primal themes in rap? My weaknesses; faith & reason; pain & beauty of life

How long have you been rapping for? Since 1991

What advice have you got for someone who wants to start this particular art form?

1. Write AND rehearse a lot!

2. Spend time around positive and creative rappers

3. Read widely

Lyrics:
from 'Colloquial': Blue Rhubarb

Once upon a time there was a boiled sweet called Bill
Months on down the line he sat rejected
Protected from the elements and tiny grimy fingers by a glass jar marked 'Rhubarb & Apple'
Why neglected?
'Cause Bill sat a few jars left of that ponce 'Rum Truffle'
In his new glass, all sparkles n all
See, it's not the newsagents....
Buyers breeze by all day
They peruse with vacant expressions naked obsessions
Always choose cakes and tarts from under the red counter
Bill may lose his patience pretty soon
He used to make them salivate
Now the true statement's that his sugar's slowly going bitter
‘Cause who's adjacent on the shelf?
None other than 'Rhubarb & Custard'
....that back stabber
Double crossing tooth rotter
Dusted on the regular
Every day refilled
Never crusted
Bill became a dreamer
Lost to concocting and plotting thought
Like 'I'll arrange an accident that's elaborate and fantastic...

sfjkfshudajjjgggggrrrsmashyaaaaintooopiecesskjid
flejes dddieo;fppi'd beeeincreassess!i!iii!!!
jjjuri've got my eye on you
I've got my eye on you
Can’t escape me
Won't evade me
There are many things that motivate me
Can't run can't hide
Fly at high speed n 'I’ve got a lock on you
Should've learnt by now don't engage me
You a top gun but you don't equate me
You and your mates - bum chums - you too cliquey
Didn't see me coming - naah
‘Cause I’m too tricky
Slide you into sunlight - you boil to sticky goo!
If the shoe fits....you know how it goes....
Pandemonium!
Take a hammer to ya till I stand alone again!
They’ll say "....musta been a loose screw"
They'll muse "....musta been a break in"
I'll watch and wait in the dark then just adjust a touch
A brush from your next customers clutch
Ya sucker concussed!'

Bill sat at the front of the jar
Not missing a single incident
His sweet thought
A musical instrument
Bent on detailed note-taking in significant detail
Of total premeditated insolence

But was the information influenced?
Bill pick n mixed the jury from the stale bread and the tins with dents

But was the information influenced?
Bill pick n mixed the jury from the bottom welded single pence

But was the information influenced?
Bill pick n mixed the jury from the Cotie L'Aimont stinky scents
And yesterday’s Independents

from 'Colloquial': Box Office Poison

I’m far from confident
I’ll never talk like the fighters talk
In fact I’m Mr. Timid Author
suffering writer’s block
Serious words from a jovial closet clown
Well I’m selling you my costume
Wanna put a deposit down?
I lost my vavavoom
And it took me by surprise
I’ve stopped staring into bakeries
With cookie monster eyes
My prose used to be ace
Now I’m spouting verbal vomit
Raspberry berets?
No, I’m attracting purple bonnets
Work vs. GameBoy
Yeah, the toys win
and my recent screenplay
Pure Box Office Poison

A tale of French Feminism?
Box Office Poison
Was this made for television?
Box Office Poison
Starring Sheena Easton
Box Office Poison
A vacant stare you could park a Rolls Royce in

I wanna climb alpine trees and throw rocks
at advanced skiers and self-professing snow snobs
They know lots about all the best powder slopes
While I’m stuck in Palm Beach
Yeah, I forgot how to vote
To make a mind map I need brave cartographers
In other words experts, yeah, some proper nerds
I called this rapper El-P
He didn’t sound healthy
But he knew the Vulcan Mind-meld
and he offered to help me
He said, Kid, you’re mad original, you’re no novice
keep it dirty but digital and -bleep- the Box Office

Mission to Mars 2
Box Office Poison
Son of Mister Magoo
Box Office Poison
Starring David Caruso - Richard Grieco

from 'Colloquial': Dark Night Of The Soul

I cried ‘Please pick me up’ to the tactile moon
but it left me cracked and ruined
It didn’t even try to patch my wounds
On the most solemn of nights Gollum invites me
Into a translucent existence where joy is lost
And a coma costs a six-pence
No gas bills, no laws, no love,
No frills, no cause, no blood,
No one to care about and total autonomy
Villains eat for free - come and meet the mirror
Study your twin - Honey, you’re thin
Just look at the state that you’re in
Well, if that’s not dejection at the very least this indicates
That faith disintegrates when hate intimidates with inner aches
Incinerate your ‘EasyAnswer’ counselling certificate
Your phrases sound so significant but to me they‘re just a vague hum
You‘re a priest and I‘m a pagan
You‘re Brezhnev, I‘m Ronald Reagan
You‘re a creationist convention lecturer, I‘m Carl Sagan
You‘ve mistaken me for someone who just needs a pat on the back
Are you having a laugh? I stuck to the path; now I get struck by the wrath?!

Doubt keeps on slapping my head; my skull lies in the lap of regret
I wanna feel God’s love but it’s not happening yet
I use to lie down happy in bed, now I feel crappy instead
Forget festivities, even my clapping is dead

Yes, I’m a brand new creation in the land of old-fashioned doubt
I could be sitting there all timid, the next moment I’m lashing out
This is a deep wound not just a little itchy cough
Trivialize this lonely phase with a phoney phrase and I will switch off
In light of this I understand you’ve taken quite a risk
by simply visiting, I do appreciate you listening
I grasp the parachute chord: the book of Psalms Forty Two
If I’m dashed on the floor I’ll look for some sort of glue
When you’re free-falling are you capable of thanking the Lord?
‘Open, please, open.....’ Are you still yanking the chord?

Doubt keeps on slapping my head; my skull lies in the lap of regret
I wanna feel God’s love but it’s not happening yet
I use to lie down happy in bed, now I feel crappy instead
Forget festivities, even my clapping is dead

Solving your problems isn’t the point
Feeling better has become more important to us
than finding and knowing God
God will not let me find him if I regard him as nothing more
than a useful tool for obtaining my own desires
He does not always guarantee our immediate comfort
yeah, in fact...

from 'Colloquial': Disheveler Sketch

[Say something colloquial, I need to get my bearings]
Hand-wrestling and as much typhoo as time allows
a deep sense of justice, not to mention perfect brows
Way before jerky Hell Day made folks uneasy
I strolled into work with a burly smirk that would release me
from your straight-laced, neck-braced fun in khaki pants
It’s not wrong, it’s just different; give them half-a-chance
before disgruntled became the official office prescription
Surprised, I’m energized by these two brown eyes in the kitchen

comforter - a listener - a foreigner trapped in the phone for a year
a voice that massages the soul, extols and nurses the ear
a voice struck by the moon, stitching wounds it strikes back
eyes that read the bad news and a hand that writes black
damp but on fire, becoming her Picasso for a season,
singing softly, eating words, the bachelor police smell treason,
it’s that sundial smile, the beauty floating down the aisle
the miracle half-mile, the arts and craft child
Stephie peed in the bath trial

the third pole - it isn’t cold it’s the extreme in-between
it’s sneers, it’s Belgian beers, it’s sincere and it’s serene
courageous enough to battle on despite the rattle of tin ribs -
just a girl pursuing the truth no matter how dreadful it is
but our king is better than your king 'cause yours is just a man
With his clever little 10 year plan, to do what? expand?
I translate the slightest timid body rhythms into a dance
a thriller, a comedy, a drama, sci-fi, romance?
East face never fancied the deep space
But lives where the beats race
and fiddlers keep pace
With certain amount of authority
I can say that it’s a rarity these days

the evening divine dining combined with
the sublime intertwining of minds, crack crack...forgotten my lines
The sea-salt stings, I see saliva strings,
my lower lip and the sand have now got several links
the wave that leaves you humbled and panting on the beach saying
‘I’ll never turn my back on the ocean again’ yet I’ll keep playing
See the world in black and white and gray shades and black and white
and maydays and wrong and right and okays and no ways

Ohiiii, point out the dirt that clings to every reveller
I need cinematic soundtracks to match the might of this disheveller
Vincent Gallo, wait, it’s already in bold and italics,
there’s really no need to underline and highlight her smart aleck
This document contains flames, which cannot be edited.
When my whispers get repetitive, just take them as an anchoring mantra
Be friends with the smilers, the lip-up-the-cheek climbers
the parents, the minors, the badge of merit finders
The Scala diners

from 'Colloquial': Ear

The Receiver, the human ear,
detector, decoder, the lobe of lack thereof,
concaves,
delicate, controlling balance,
enough to keep Joe Druckmiller on his feet
and the means of hearing your own heart
in complete silence,
to listen to the shushes and clicks
of spoken language,
Tagalog, Finnish and Urdu,
the rhythm of rain,
gentle, a sad song,
piano, cello, guitar solos,
words of compassion,
Hada’s laughter...

from 'Colloquial': Ex-Golf Pro

Caddy no, ex golf pro
Closed windows and screen doors
The wind blows, it’s an unseen force
Never been this slow on 16 tours
thirteen holes to go this morning
Playing any course alone is boring
The rough, the fairway
It’s tough, the gossip, the hearsay
The slander on the clear days
The sharp questions, the blunt answers
My perfect career before the birth of the cancer
The fears, the jeers, the damn brand pledge
Debates, Was I still great with a sand wedge?
Standing on the podium kissed by the national anthem
But back at home throwing actual tantrums

Suddenly ex-wife, ex-agent, ex-fan
Optical surgery Cyclops X-Man
What’s my handicap? Well, I’m legally blind
and wary of the water hazards on the back nine
No eagles nowadays, no birdies, no par
I might be trapped in the sand but I know where you are
They moved you to the back of the green in 2000
Just before that celebrity match with Pete Townsend
Back-swing, click, that’s a glorious sound
But even my putting is laborious now

from 'Colloquial': Faliure

I’m dropping science, well no, I’m dropping science classes
For 10 years I’ve been scraping through with passes
Square roots and photosynthesis avoided
‘Ich weiss jetzt gar nicht was das alles bedeutet’
But arts and humanities, the start of my vanity
Found sanity in poems and painted my own canopy
It was all color and sounds, there’s nothing duller than irregular verbs
I just liked the slur of the words
I got abstract and covered my tracks with poncy jargon
Lost my friends and crossed all creative margins
To a place of bad taste and slim waists and eating disorders
You want difficult fiction? Well, this is the headquarters
I had something important to give to the world like Monty Python
My new exhibition would surely make me a cultural icon
You vultures ripped me to shreds
I can hear your beaks grinding
Why did nobody show up at my in-store book signing??

So what’s the deadliest creature? - failure - blizzard kiss
Knocked for six - falling flat on my face

I’m a jewel in the crown of failure
Every year watch me lose 2 or 3 inches to the ocean
A city on stilts, yeah, that was my idea
I’ve even traded platinum plates for coconut lotion
Look at the catalogue, kids, I got my own pages
The Hindenburg, Betamax and Babylon Zoo
Your antiquarian book collection needs a home
Well, my library’s as moist as a post-marathon shoe
I’m no stranger to accidental copyright infringement
Design flaws in what became almost classic cars
I dated Glenn Close but no cigar
Where do you think Michael Crichton got his idea for Jurassic Park?
My condolences to all you zoologist’s widows
Yeah, I really thought that I could somehow salvage the endeavor
But like Richard Attenborough’s character in the movie adaptation
I sent dozens to their doom and I’ll be in your bad books forever

Failure - look at my frozen toes
Didn’t even make it close to the pole, suppose
Failure - sums it all up for me
Set off in the spring of ‘73
Failure - spelt with a lowercase ‘f’
Got no funny face left as the dogs race death
Failure - Greg, when he misjudged the ice
Fell backwards; we turned when his cries burnt the skies
Flares - meant to be signs of hope
Failure - he couldn’t even grab the rope
Disaster - 7 hours later we find
Our official application papers never got signed
Failure - Radio contact lost
Our boss sponsors the others, we’re double-crossed
Got back to Hackensack on the 2nd of May
Failure - I missed my daughter’s birthday

Failure - blizzard kiss, knocked for six

from 'Colloquial': Friday Night

It was friday night
and the universe was coming into view
For the past 6 days all that was missing was you
And now I see the beauty that He designed our lives to be

The first sale was made
As we bought it from the snake
Every atom shook
at the holy break
And now we are doomed as the stars
Cast out on an empty planet
Hallelujah

(As the mountains grew up and down into hills
A person alone is still unfulfilled
Without He even we are just two thirds of perfect unity
Hallelujah)

from 'Colloquial': Just Right Of The First Pin

Size 10 – let’s swap shoes – I love yours
And besides it’s mandatory on these wooden floors
Olive skin – baby blue jumpsuit – almost certainly bilinguial
5 foot 8 – late twenties – soft-spoken
Wasting precious silence every time his mouth is open
Or so he believes at least
His daughter can just about stand
Her little mind mutters ‘Give me a month and I’ll be walking’
Speaking of walking, he’s got a subtle limp
This is not some fashion statement
He was obviously lifting something heavy in the basement
And wrecked his back and yet he still picks up that 12 pound weapon
And takes aim – Strike, spare, strike, strike
And moves with undeniable elegance
Just right of the first pin

from 'Colloquial': Liquid Gold

prescription: liquid gold, just rub it on the wounds
but your face is tattooed to my retinas and I’m consumed
by you like a careless ant at a picnic: doomed
like a novice skaters knees doing a kick-flip
my piercing eyes serenade every plane in the sky
‘til I nearly cracked the moon,
celebrated with black balloons
you’re a missing heirloom; I guess I’ll ransack the room
so jealous of intimate couples I’d even attack the groom
whatever ya do, don’t apply eye-shadow, I’ll swoon
and get trampled underfoot like my shadow at noon

things always seem to gravitate towards the complex
and with no prior experience to provide a context
we get caught off-balance like a child’s first steps
every move’s a challenge like mixing with the worst decks
and it’s no use locking the two of us in a room
no light or oxygen so it’s obviously a tomb
those with flesh and blood need to know their limitations
a close overdose floods and drowns out the revelation
that only an immortal source heals our human angst
Jehovah is our joy and force field of boomerangs

ANCIENT COURAGE CAUSES MY LIMBS TO REMINISCE
THE ROAR OF THE RIVER - WE SWIM WITH IMPETUS
THE DEAD + THE QUICK DISMISSED IN A PRECISION KISS
THE THUNDERING WINGS OF THE WIND ENVISIONED THIS
YOU WHISPER WASTED DECEIT, O GRIM VENTRILOQUIST
MY EARS ARE TIGHTLY SEALED LIKE A TIN OF IMPRISONED FISH
I’M FULLY AWARE THAT MY SIN CAN WIZEN BLISS
I SPIT OUT SCORPIONS - NEED TO RINSE MALICIOUS LIPS
GROVEL IN THE GRAVEL AND IN SUBMISSION RISK
A MILE OF BURNT PRIDE AND AN INCH OF FORGIVENESS
WE’RE ALL BLIND TO PLOT TWISTS EVEN INTUITIONISTS
BUT THESE VOWS WE NOW INSIST ARE AN ALL SUFFICIENT LIST

from 'Colloquial': Proper Diners and Good Grammar

Soul-man, no, I’m a mole-man
You disheveled me, made me throw away the old plan
Though I love diner dinners
sometimes I’m thinner than featherweights
With every new moon you and me become better mates
I know I’m meant to say ‘you and I’, improve my grammar
I love you, little one, like the early nineties loved Hammer!

I’m a t-crosser, an i-dotter,
I used to have star stickers and ticks all over my jotter
Our love for etymology and language in general
Makes me realize that proper syntax is seminal
I send out freak storms with the blink of an eye
Sweet nothing phrases? Nope, I stink when I try
Team Wilson - full flow, it’s a beautiful thing
Like a phantom Bilbo when he’s using the Ring
It’s magic, it’s effortless, it’s properly telepathic
Its long-term effects? We’re still checking the demographic
You’re reading maps well and we’re cruising through Finchley
It sure beats the hell out of using my ‘instinct’

So sometimes I feel I got to pick up the pace
And get hyper like when pug-man is licking your face
We stress out - we slow down and make a pit-stop
We dress up - in old gowns and debate ‘hip-hop’
The speed of this journey, it’s always a challenge
I apologize my ironside throws me off-balance
In terms of our faith and joint spatial awareness
Let’s move forward - starting at the pace of a chairlift

from 'Colloquial': Rethink Everything

Rethink everything
Tall Twin towers
blink at the screen
Til all is devoured

Cosmic enigmatic fixtures
Paint and 35mm pictures
Saints and sinners all sitting drinking Carling
Faintly mumbling and fidgeting and snarling
building friends thru feisty conversation
Reading type that might be revelation
Danielle, Sean and Pamela and David
All those beautiful moments with Michaelis
Traveling to Prague, Namibia and Sweden
Ravi Zacharias welding faith and reason
Salman Rushdie bleeding thru the pages
Paperback classics been feeding me for ages
Philanthropic wisdom of the sages
Can’t compete with the Almighty Courageous
Crown of Thorns and sacrificial powers
a Field of Force for these official cowards

Rethink everything
Tall Twin towers
blink at the screen
Til all is devoured

Martial vows are disemboweled
In fact we only have a ring so that we can throw in the towel
Divorce is now just another ritual, habitual
The one shall become two 'cause, shoot, we’re individuals
the silent terror of relational trial and error
like Ike and Tina severed, enemies forever
Words are often patronizing like a frail moralistic tale
that ultimately fails like Dreamcast sales
Let me cut to the chase and use intelligence
then noteworthy dialogue will be the consequence
I won’t be hesitant to exhibit the love of Christ
Watch it expand twice the size like boiling rice in a pan
My advice to you is to pray blessing upon your fam and crew
in fact total strangers too
Show me a man who pursues relationships with a servant heart
and I’ll point out a friendship that’s become a work of art

from 'Colloquial': Somber Tongue

[CABLE]
How long can we battle for, two seconds or forever more?
Til they check the balance and discover
the hourglass in the department store.
And anyway there’s a virus in the veins of the eye of extinction,
educated in overcast, and passed with distinction.
I’ve got a soft spot for heroes but the truth is,
they couldn’t save an egg from a stationary spoon
or in their mouth keep a toothpick.
Obviously this is stupid,
to all attainable levels,
we’re not single celled rebels with limbs propelling pebbles.
In the darkness at the desk I can romanticize
about 9 lives and words that rhyme
and lines that don’t reflect what I’m thinking.
This is my economy, my outlet, my anthology,
the montage of features from teachers that seem to follow me.
Where are we going?
I’m not aware that we even left, at seventy revolutions a second,
would you like to take part in mine?
I backtrack through phone calls so that I know who I spoke to,
It’s not much but it’s a lead so that I know where I went to.
Supposed to remember but I can’t remind myself inevitably
of my existence between walls and worthless coins become your deity.
The rain still pours despite the pause and we are gripped in diamond doors,
a dozen laws and still the bodies hit the floor.

[THINKING]
I reached the big 2-7 and discovered that many others
never liked horror films either, lose the meat cleaver
there’s really no need for fictional depictions
of damaged human bodies, decapitations and what not
Are we fulfilling some quota?
Devising evil acts; is it meant to entertain or stain
Or just drain us? maim the mammoths and sell their tusks
Daily from dawn ‘til dusk real atrocities orange crush touch
Stop reading proper newspapers on the bus
I’m sensitive
Busk for guilt money from us
Busk for milk gummy from us

[CABLE]
To tear and peel the skin from a serrated corn field
opened and congealed like duck tape with a similar feel.
Razor wire, patterned and crosshatched along its seal
pretty and cartoonish til it lessens its appeal.
I’ve got a seven ten split that omits the surplus power trip
obviously there’s a cowardice sprouted from sour grape influence.
Originating from an implement, distributed by a system
I’m open to suggestions for a more effective new replacement.
We churn out another row of animated misfits,
each one is raised establishing a fitting nemesis.
And you insist on neglecting and transferring your bad habits,
sign your name here, post the check and reap the benefits.
I take two steps two revel in the content of my lungs and I try to run,
but I’m tethered to the rungs of a door bound with bullets.
Covertly operative, tinsel town is wired, what are we looking for?
The senior man is tired.
Exceptionally fired, real people with logic required
servitude expired, positions open, apply within.

[THINKING]
Guilt is always the in-thing, it never loses momentum
I broke the clock but it’s Mike who gets detention
Listening to sober songs while staring out at their makers
Some striking young women who seem very concerned
as they read my thoughts
Will hands of comfort find their way through patio glass?
I blink and they’ve vanished
they’ve left in such a hurry
I feel rejected by these beautiful folk
Neglected and soaked in rose water of sorrow songs
and their domino effect
They obviously don’t want to relive the pain
Well, not yet
Still I’m really disappointed as I run to the front of the house
and see the women speed off in their little turquoise car
up the hill, frightened that my tears will ruin
their day and early evening
Their melodies still weigh me down
So I’m stuck here in the driveway with a scowl and a frown
and a heartbeat that rattles , paddles and drowns out
the sonic booms, the tonic runes scratched into the glass
of public transport - seven - three - this gum has lost its flavor
[Pause]
Seven three, but is it ethical
Yeah, but what can I do - somber tongue
but what can I do -  somber tongue

from 'Colloquial': Summon Scapegoat

I'm a park bench, I'm a mattress,
I'm an overnight intercontinental flight
[Switch off your reading light]
grab a pillow and sleep tight
Or just nod your head to the beat right
We'd fight if we had malicious tendencies
Or at the very least proper vicious enemies
Let's firebomb egos using the Zion cries
Rookie King Darius Totempole dies
Sacred heart scratch cards?!? The shiniest shrines are getting digital
Saviour?  I'll stick with the original
The unkillable body blueprint -yeah, that's my sacred vision
Your scary little construct is blatant plagiarism
Oh, I got Marxist leanings
Sometimes I'm in the darkness screaming...
You can't chastise the smurfs with scorpion burns
I got far too many earnest terms - the furnaces yearns
Extend hand to the listener, this land demands visitors
Is that Germaine Greer? Errrr, no, it isn't her
It's a humble collection of feminist ideals,
It's three square meals
It's fair deals
It's second-hand Zephyrs with spare wheels
It's the eyes that just can't see the fourth man in the fire!

Sleep at your peril, 'cause even though I'm tired
I'm fire-fighting the gray smoke

It’s unfair to compare your despair with my pain
We’ll never share a migraine

from 'My Organs Are Yours': Mortal

Ooh, dreams will be like William Blake paintings
Truue, the Word has got ever so tainted
Smoooth, arrhythmic lump under chest banging
Moove, watch out for angels crash-landing
Horse-drawn chariots, four raw carriers
Pestilence, death, famine, war at the Marriot
Jake and Dinos Chapman figurines cradle
Confidence unheard since the tower of Babel
24 hours without washing and your flesh reeks a stench
[And yet you're proud?]

Hit 'em with the heat like a consummating fireball
Loud ruin on the street, it's a dire brawl
Hear hereafter, ether at the wake
It's inevitable: your body expiry date
Instant zings fling unseen stings
Eschatos! Your eulogy is Wingdings!
23 chromosomes breaking down into Moroccan cedarwood
whether evil or good
Sever the self into several selves to suffer the severe service of death
Until there's nothing left

I've got the fashion; worms intertwine with the flyyyy
Putrefaction; five days after your niiiigh
Whilst the energy's expired into something more or less
This is where I get off, my stop, my rest

full weight of the rigors of mortis
who'll wake up to spring? just the orchids
tourist, your timing is flawless

no good uppercut - micah 3.6
no rematch, no remix,
no home for the beatniks, better believe it, I'm seasick
frozen fire, no phoenix
old desires, o Venus!
photograph in the eye of the mind is scenic
all toned, beautiful backbones
and bicycles bells
thrown over the chrome
surprising myself
sunkissed vision of the rise of the welt
the youngest of women making icicles melt
the breath of the summer? you're grasping smoke
and a cast of crass and dastardly folk
the past is the past and you're having to cope
with the loss of your love and you haven't a hope
no fountain can doctor your age
in the mountain an ox can carry a box with your shame
and won't speak praise or blame until the end of the page
or til the last days, ahh

from 'My Organs Are Yours': Sacred

The dead weight contorts the pixie dust
Let's set it straight: you won't miss me much
Crouch in a bunker
Elevated heavy metal will cloud up your slumber
The women and men of faith will plough through the undergrowth
Thunder so pervasive, off come the shoes and the laces
The Borneo four-hand man
The Yellowstone wolf
And the Lord of the Land
Bereft of the cell-phone, elbow-to-elbow intel
Go into the realm of the other 99%
We cut ‘em all down
Now they rise again

We'll die soon
Wash off the sour grimace in a typhoon
I lost the flower in it
Kneel in the jungle
Spinal cord to the canopy
Feeling the rumble
Dear Lord, are you mad at me?
Reveal the subtext, you confiscated my sampler
You see I plumb depths and carbon-dated the antlers
The caribou is steely-eyed
Nothing like the picture in the pamphlet when I arrived
But to my surprise
It won't hold grudges in the clutches of a light divine
Don't need enemies, I lied to friends
I cut 'em all down
But they rise again

from 'My Organs Are Yours': Throw In The Towel

Throw in the towel, scowl on my face
May it melt into tears, exposing my fears
Prose for the peers, tales for the kids
Those are the years that we fail to relive

We confused things like best men who lose rings
Or anti-monarchy countries that choose kings
Shoe-string budget - product - love it - covet? - nothing!
Underdogs shunning overdubbing
Got enough to buy grain, but still we shine shoes
Our combined aim is to redefine whose
Really raising the stakes and blazing the trails
Lacing basic breaks with an amazing tale
Inspired raps don't require maps
Carnivores consume entire yaks
And I admire that

from 'My Organs Are Yours': Unearth

Stay on the wet gravel path of old rubble
Grasping the neck of the battered coal shovel
The spines of November's leaves in the snow
Dead unicorn trees have no reason to grow
Bad time of year to unearth the sleeper
Most get discarded but this one's a keeper
My shoulders oaooww I'm digging too fast
It's colder now, I swig from the flask

Hallways and bedrooms I see your
Portrait, the body I grieve for

Unearthing relics of a former person
Un-alien before their subterranean immersion
Fingers in the dirt search for purpose
Trace each molecule to outer universes
Amounts to this the previous exists
Watch the past, the future is sparse
Pieces yet to click and fix
And stick together as a solid
So compared with before
What's coming is pretty horrid
Recycled can't help but feel entitled to a recall
Particles at starting points proceeding in freefall
I'm weeding, the trees fall
I'm bleeding from sweet sores
The tally has piled up exceeding my cheat score
With contemplation the council has turned
We'll be out the building by the time the housel have stirred
I'm hauling a weight that’s countless in worth
And all that it takes is a mouthful of dirt

Bones clutch gristle
Stones touch thistles
Digits freezing
Rigid wheezing
Crowbar scraping
Old heart aching
Locks are breaking
Box awaken

Always so happy to see me
Doll face he grins when he greets me

I climb in the coffin, hope nobodies watching
The body is rotting and moldy
I lie in the coffin, hope nobodies watching
The body that's rotten says 'hold me'
I lie in the coffin, hope nobodies watching
Our bodies are locking so coldly
I lie in the coffin, hopes nobodies watching
The body that's rotting;
It's the old me

from 'My Organs Are Yours': X-Ray Specs

x-ray specs, the next day, insects
x-ray specs, the next day, ohh!

blow the speakers, sound the warning
days of doomy dusty cloud

through the portal, the sound of mourning
looks like you might trust me now

when the fear is fostered it festers faster
your posture pestered the plaster
the monster messed the master
and that's disaster!

x-ray specs, the next day, insects
x-ray specs, the next day, ohh!

call me gloomy super villain
beardy Kasporovy  scowl

Welcome to the Afterfuture
Yah will pardon blood guilt now

xray specs, the next day insects
xray specs, the next day OOH!
